The healthy user and healthy adherer bias: a nested case-control study among statin users in the Rotterdam Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objective Failure to correct for lifestyle in routinely collected data may lead to the healthy user or healthy adherer bias, because patients who initiate or adhere to preventive therapy (e.g. statins) may have a healthier lifestyle than patients who do not use or adhere to statins, respectively. We aimed to assess if there is a difference in lifestyle between statin users and non-users and between adherent and nonadherent statin users.

متن کاملStatin Use and Breast Cancer Survival: A Nationwide Cohort Study from Finland
Recent studies have suggested that statins, an established drug group in the prevention of cardiovascular mortality, could delay or prevent breast cancer recurrence but the effect on disease-specific mortality remains unclear. We evaluated risk of breast cancer death among statin users in a population-based cohort of breast cancer patients. The study cohort included all newly diagnosed breast c...
متن کاملComparison of Elevated Liver Enzymes in Type 2 Diabetic Patients in User and Non-User of Statin
Background: Type-2 diabetes is a risk factor for progressive non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and the majority of diabetic patients have blood lipid disorders, so they take statin drugs. Statins have the adverse effects such as liver dysfunction and increase in liver enzymes. The purpose of this study was to compare the liver enzymes in type 2 diabetic patients who are user and non-user of sta...
متن کاملTelevision viewing time among statin users and non-users. The Polish Norwegian Study (PONS)☆
Sedentary behavior has emerged as an independent cardiovascular disease risk factor. Uncertainty exists about the behaviors of statin users, who may exhibit either a healthy adherer or a false reassurance effect. We conducted this study in order to assess and compare TV viewing among statin users and nonusers. We used data from a cross-sectional study of 12,754 participants, from south-east Pol...
متن کاملStatin adherence and risk of acute cardiovascular events among women: a cohort study accounting for time-dependent confounding affected by previous adherence
OBJECTIVES Previous studies on the effect of statin adherence on cardiovascular events in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease have adjusted for time-dependent confounding, but potentially introduced bias into their estimates as adherence and confounders were measured simultaneously. We aimed to evaluate the effect when accounting for time-dependent confounding affected by previous ...
